Devlogs and Updates

The update's finally done!

It took a lil while for me to come back to this and do the update but it was well worth it. The difference isn't staggering, it's not a completely different game, but It feels just that little bit more polished and it really makes a difference once I compare the two.

Here's a little list of all the changes from major to minor:

  • There's a web version of the game now! I tried to get version 1 to work on the web but didn't have any luck before the original jam ended but now it's really in the state it should have been.
  • There's finally sound effects! This is the biggest feeling change for sure, since it adds some good feedback that was sorely necessary in the game
  • Added Options menu on the main screen in order to adjust the volume of the game.
  • New obstacle shows up to add just a bit more challenge/variety to the game play.
  • The amount of shells you could potentially find on the beach increases per day and so does the amount of creatures you need to dodge (thus adding a bit of a difficulty curve).
  • The story has some minor edits that I feel improve it a bit as well as slight changes to the ending if you don't make it to the goal.
  • Added a few animations to buttons and menus throughout the game to give a bit of a nicer feel to everything

I think that's about as much as I'll be adding this game unless there are some game breaking bugs or I get a bunch of feedback that can help me tune things so it's a bit better of an experience. It was a lot of fun working on this game, and having seen some encouraging feedback from both friends and strangers makes me really excited to make more stuff and see what I can get out of it.

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy playing!

First Game Jam!

Throughout November of 2025 I participated in my first game jam! I've been trying to do something like this for a very, very long time and finally finding the time to do it feels liberating.

Since I was a kid I've wanted to make games, but every time I would tell myself that I needed to learn something more. It felt like the whole process would be doomed if I didn't know how to draw everything just right or didn't program things perfectly so there wouldn't be any bugs or errors. Perfectionism prevented me from even considering that I could just start and learn on the way, and I can't let that go any further or else I won't get anywhere that I want to be.

So in November, I finally took that plunge. I joined the Github GameOff, spent the next month trying to make a game, and finally put out Shells by the Shore! It was a really fun expreience with drawing everything, coding everything, and getting some music from my friend sebastian that fit so perfectly with the game. The game isn't perfect in any way, as there's things missing or rushed throughout, but I'm proud of it none the less.

Now that I've gone through the process of making a game wholely from scratch, I feel like a fire's been lit deep inside that I've got to keep burning. I'll be joining a lot more jams this year and I'll be talking about them a lot as I go through them. As for my last game, you can check it out in the games sidebar and check out a video I made as a little self critique below.
